Newfoundland and Labrador Youth Awarded Prince of Wales Community Leader Scholarship

Karla Benoit from Stephenville, Newfoundland and Labrador was one of 13 youth who were awarded the Prince of Wales Community Leader Scholarship. The scholarship was created in honour of the Prince of Wales' visit to Canada during International Year of Volunteers (IYV) 2001. The scholarships, valued at $3000 honour Canadian youth for their volunteer contribution.

Karla is an active volunteer in her community in the areas of athletics and youth involvement. She organized spiritual youth retreats for her local parish and was selected to represent Stephenville at World Youth Day in Toronto in 2002. In addition, Karla is an active fundraiser for various voluntary agencies in her community. She also was named Youth of the Year 2000.
